Picnics, Parklands and a Penny Stove!

July 18th, 2010

What a great day it was today!
We went to church in the morning, and in the afternoon we had a picnic lunch at Roma St Parklands with some old friends – Charlie & Mel and their 3 kids.

Our kids were completely tuckered out and slept in the car on the way home.

At the picnic Charlie & Mel had a can of soft drink each.  Good old Kirks!   Daniel wanted to recycle them- and put them in the RIGHT bin.  This one:The Right Bin for Cans!

However I asked if they would donate the cans to a project we were doing instead!

So, here’s the result!

Soccer team: Boas

July 17th, 2010

Caleb is in a new team at Soccer. We’re both VERY excited about this. The team is a strong one – 2 really awesome defenders, and 2 really strong attackers, and an awesome all-rounder!!

The team name is “Boas” in keeping with snake team names. At first I was thinking.. Hmm – big, slow. But I realised – Boa Constrictors are TOUGH and can eat a whole cow!

Can swallow a whole cow!

Can eat a whole cow!

What to do with a Frog in the Toilet

June 25th, 2010

I got a phone call at work today, and my wife was laughing.

Daniel had gone into the loo – and had got the dickens scared out of him by a FROG in the toilet!

The frog is more scared of us, than we are of him!

Desserts – Yet another reason to love Winter

June 19th, 2010

Back when I was a lad, Desserts were a Big Thing in our house. It was always a treat when there was Someone Special visiting and we would have desserts.

One of the deserts I remember fondly was “Baked Apples”. Mum used to make this and I picked up the recipe. My boys LOVE baked apples, and so do I!

Here’s our recipe – give it a whirl.  It’s quick, cheap, “sort-of-healthy” and really really really yummy.

Bushwalking, Marshmallows and Railway tunnels

June 3rd, 2010

So, Felicia is studying at the moment. Which means the boys and I must needs go on an adventure – OUT of the house, and take up the entire day.
This requires some forward thinking. So I asked my “adventuring dad”friend Anton.
He told me about a very cool, little known place, which has a SECRET TUNNEL!

Screen Free Days

May 16th, 2010

Weekends – they are the best of times, but they CAN be the worst of times!

Felicia and I had noticed a trend, and it was concerning us.
The trend was that when we got busy on the weekend getting ‘chores’ done – the boys would get bored and loll about, asking for biscuits, lollies, juice, and wanting to watch TV or play computer games.

Fishing and Zombie Cats

May 15th, 2010

So this Weekend we had the absolute luxury of a blank Saturday stretching in front of us (After soccer of course!).
I had planned a fun afternoon of restoring window frames, but the boys got an idea – and asked if they could go fishing instead.

So I thought! Why not? No harm here right?

Making a Garden.

November 30th, 2009

For a long while now I’ve been thinking of making a garden.  The other weekend I had the boys to myself for the whole morning and that was the catalyst to do something about it!

First of all, we started with a plan.  Well, a rough plan, kind of in my head.

This transferred to a back of a cocktail napkin kind of plan, and back of an envelope kind of budget to do it.

Off to Bunnings… Read the rest of this entry »

My Sister wrote a book!

August 20th, 2009

Wow, I am really proud of ALL my brothers and sisters.   I have 3 sisters and one brother.  Each is very creative, passionate, energetic, vocal and a great parent.   It makes for a very loud and fun get together!

Rebecca is the closest in age to me.   She is a great mother, a teacher, an artist, and now she is an author.  Crikey, What next??   She’s amazing.  Somehow in the busy time of life she has Written A Book, and had the firepower to Get It Published!

Here’s the cover page and synopsis – if you’re interested: just go here:  www.impressionsartstudio.com/blog/ and click the buy now button on the page about her book.

Synopsis:  David is a young boy who watches his family breakdown.   When his father leaves, he is distraught and blames himself.
God shows His compassion and understanding for David in a very special way….
