Picnics, Parklands and a Penny Stove!

What a great day it was today!
We went to church in the morning, and in the afternoon we had a picnic lunch at Roma St Parklands with some old friends – Charlie & Mel and their 3 kids.

Our kids were completely tuckered out and slept in the car on the way home.

At the picnic Charlie & Mel had a can of soft drink each.  Good old Kirks!   Daniel wanted to recycle them- and put them in the RIGHT bin.  This one:The Right Bin for Cans!

However I asked if they would donate the cans to a project we were doing instead!

So, here’s the result!

Don’t you just love it when you find a service that goes above and beyond? I blogged about this when I found Price Pirate for our washing machine. Good, decent price, pleasant to deal with and FAST.

Well I found another gem the other day. Central Station Shoe Repairs. These guys are awesome!

Baxter had torn the zipper pull off his favourite bag. He’s quite attached to his little Thomas the Tank Engine bag “ he takes it to childcare and camping and stuff. But it would no longer stay closed. The zip pull fell to bits and we were preparing to toss it out. :( (more…)

Repair or Replace?

Having three boys in the house, there’s always stuff that gets well and truly busted.

So what do you do? Do you simply chuck it away, or do you have a crack at fixing it first?

Well, given I’m a genuine Aussie bloke, my first instinct is to repair! I’ve been known to spend MANY a happy hour repairing something that could be re-purchased cheaply. It impresses and delights the boys too. I think..
