So, Felicia is studying at the moment. Which means the boys and I must needs go on an adventure – OUT of the house, and take up the entire day.
This requires some forward thinking. So I asked my “adventuring dad”friend Anton.
He told me about a very cool, little known place, which has a SECRET TUNNEL!
Of course, we were interested! So a little bit of research and I found “Rail Trails”.
I found the particular Railway Tunnel that Anton was on about. I told the boys, and we made sure we packed all sorts of good things to take with us, so we were ready to go!
After soccer, we drove up to Landsborough (About 40 minutes north of Brisbane on the Bruce Highway, or take the more picturesque “Steve Irwin Way”).
We found the
entry to Dularcha National Park
and we threw down some chairs, and a table, and immediately had lunch.

We also had some marshmallows – good thing I brought the camp stove!

Fortified by all of this – we set off on our walk.

Off we go!
We found a heap of interesting tracks – might be dinosaurs, said Baxter!

Dinosaur tracks??
Finally, we FOUND THE TUNNEL!! how exciting!

Found the Secret Tunnel!
We ran around inside the tunnel, had some more marshmallows in the middle in the dark, and then began our long walk home.
Baxter was a bit tired, so he sat down. 2.5 km Was enough for him. We made it back home, tired, but happy and full of adventure.

Enough!
So -is it worth it?? Yes, most definitely. We’ll be visiting some more secret trails & tunnels in the near future. How about you other dads – any secret trails to share?
Enjoy!
J
That sounds like an awesome adventure Jon.
Getting Baxter to walk 2.5km is impressive, I guess he slept in the car on the way home?
I like how you’re loading Caleb up with a pack too!
I’ll have to remember this if I’m looking for a day trip with the Kids.
Cheers,
Craig.
