Picnics, Parklands and a Penny Stove!

July 18th, 2010

What a great day it was today!
We went to church in the morning, and in the afternoon we had a picnic lunch at Roma St Parklands with some old friends -- Charlie & Mel and their 3 kids.

Our kids were completely tuckered out and slept in the car on the way home.

At the picnic Charlie & Mel had a can of soft drink each.  Good old Kirks!   Daniel wanted to recycle them- and put them in the RIGHT bin.  This one:The Right Bin for Cans!

However I asked if they would donate the cans to a project we were doing instead!

So, here’s the result!

After doing some research online -- “Penny Stoves” I found some great instructables on how to do this. Check out instructables.com for more info -- in particular -- this one

Here’s the result:

And here’s it in action:

Action Shot

I also made a Snuffer from the lid -- I superglued a piece of the ginger beer can into the lid to make it air-tight:

And It’s Australian Made!!

Australian Made, Since 1865

And lastly -- here’s a short video of it in action.

Enjoy!

Warning: Don’t hold one of these over an open flame upside-down – even if empty!! they will ‘pop’ with a large bang. And if there’s any metho left in it, your hand will catch on fire. Trust me on this one. :)

  2. Hey, nice stove! Now all you need is a pot stand to go with it and you will be all set! I look forward to hearing about your trip.
